This Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards kick off the 2012 entertainment awards season, and NM Incite found that Ricky Gervais’ return as the show’s host is driving buzz mentions of the awards on Twitter. Roughly one-fourth (26%) of messages from users highly anticipate his performance, both on-stage and backstage through his Twitter account @rickygervais.
NM Incite looked at over 7,000 Twitter messages from January 10 – 11 about the Golden Globes to understand what social media users are looking forward to.

Fans specifically called out the British comedian’s sharp and irreverent humor in 8% of messages. Below are a few example of such tweets:

While 10% of tweets contained words of support for specific celebrities and 4% for specific shows, no nominee dominated the discussion.
Award presenters are being announced over the next few days on the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s official Golden Globe Awards Twitter account, @goldenglobes. The first batch of announcements, which included Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Mila Kunis, drew reactions from fans and accounted for 9% of Golden Globes-related tweets.
